Terse Bloviation is an as-the-muse-strikes mishmash written by Scott Douglas (aka, “I”).
If you’ve heard of me, it’s likely via my long tenure in the running writing world. Currently a contributor to Runner’s World and Outside, I’ve also held senior editorial positions at Runner’s World and the late, lamented Running Times. I’ve written about running for mainstream publications including The Atlantic, Slate, and the Washington Post. And I’ve written or co-written more than a dozen books, including Advanced Marathoning, Running is My Therapy, and the New York Times bestsellers 26 Marathons and Meb for Mortals. Because co-writing books with four Olympic marathoners wasn’t sufficient, I’m currently working on one with Clayton Young.
Much of what I write on Terse Bloviation is influenced by being a daily runner since 1979. The 130,000+ miles I’ve run have inevitably shaped my thoughts and actions. (As in, of course I did a token 2-miler in a Heathrow Airport corridor when that was the only opportunity to run that day.) My hope is that my posts more spur your thoughts on a topic than that I convince you that I’m right. After all, you don’t last several decades as a runner without a root perspective of open-mindedness and adaptability.
